Introducing 2017 NC International Science Challenge Student Raymond Gao

Hello everyone! My name is Raymond Gao and I am a senior at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM), transferring there from East Chapel Hill High School in the fall of 2015. As you might be able to guess from the topic of my research project, my favorite two subjects in school are physics and math, but I am also fascinated by environmental and ecological science, which I think I might study in college. I love to test my knowledge of these subjects by participating in Science Bowl and Ocean Science Bowl competitions, both of which have Nationals coming up in April. I also sing and act in musicals, a new passion I discovered after transferring to NCSSM. Outside of school, I am a world champion competitive jump roper—shameless plug for my team, the Bouncing Bulldogs! Aside from jump rope, my interests include cooking and watching gymnastics. Some of my favorite gymnasts of all time are Svetlana Boginskaya, Elena Produnova, and Marian Dragulescu. Not sure if this is on our itinerary, but I would love to tour the arena where the artistic gymnastics events were held during the 2008 Beijing Olympics!
