Michelle and I ready for the plane ride to Beijing

After waking up at 4:45 this morning, I am a little groggy but ready to start the trip! When we arrived at RDU the security line was painfully long but we got to our gate relatively quickly and had about two and a half hours at the gate. I’m really looking forward to the entire trip, but the one of the things I am most excited about is meeting all of the other competitors from different countries.

When we landed and got through baggage claim the first thing that I saw was a KFC and a Starbucks, which I thought was pretty funny. We then met our three student translators who were all extremely nice and welcoming. I am excited to get to know them better over the course of the competition.

At the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) campus, all of the facilities are really nice and you can see a section of the great wall from campus. Everything is really cool and it is all so different from anywhere I’ve ever been or anything I’ve ever experienced. I am looking forward to exploring more tomorrow.
